The 142nd Kentucky Derby is happening next weekend (May 6th and 7th) – how will you be celebrating? We’re busy planning a classic Derby party, complete with the official cocktail of the event – the Mint Julep!
Before planning your event, you’ll need the perfect attire! A classic springtime dress is always a staple, and no Derby look is complete without a statement-making hat. Of course, our must-have accessory for the Kentucky Derby is a stack of our Caviar Derby bracelets.
Once you’ve got the look, start planning your refreshments. The Mint Julep has been associated with the Kentucky Derby for almost a century, and is a must-have for any Derby celebration. Here’s a classic recipe for this refreshing cocktail (and don’t forget the traditional sterling cup).
MINT JULEP
1 Teaspoon Powdered Sugar
2 Oz Bourbon Whiskey
2 Teaspoons Water
4 Mint Leaves
In a glass, gently muddle the mint, sugar, and water. Add ice and Bourbon and stir well until glass is frosted. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
